The clock is ticking to renew domains at today’s prices.
It’s August, which means the clock is ticking to save money on .com registrations and renewals.
On September 1, Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) will increase the wholesale price of .com registrations and renewals by 62 cents to $9.59. This doesn’t include ICANN 18-cent fee per domain.
So if you’re paying anything close to that for renewals now, you can expect your registrar to increase the price next month.
If you have domains you know you’ll want to renew for many years in the future, it makes sense to renew for multiple years now. Until September 1, you can renew your domains for the same price for up to 10 years. Verisign is likely to continue raising prices in the future; it is permitted to increase wholesale prices to $10.26 in 2024 before a two-year price freeze goes into effect.
