Report provides rich data on domain names and the aftermarket.
A few weeks ago, Sedo and InternetX released a Global Domain Report covering data about the domain name industry and their own businesses. I was at NamesCon and bogged down but I finally got a chance to review it last week.
Here are some of the interesting stats from the report. You can download the full report here.
Domain search of all TLDs by length
I’ve seen many charts showing that most domains that sell are about 7-12 characters, and prices drop off from there. This chart from InternetX shows the length of domains people are searching for, and it’s no surprise that it correlates with what’s selling.
Domain aftermarket prices
The report reviews domain sales data at Sedo and breaks out data in an easy-to-read format. For example, you can review top sales by country code. I also found this chart showing median prices interesting:
Note how many domains are selling at low prices. Half of .com domains are selling for under $630! Also, note how much higher .AI domains are selling for. Keep in mind that many of Sedo’s customers are other domain investors, so median prices here are a blend of end users and investors.

It was from 2019
Snoopy says
The .ai domain average is high because 99% of sales are by the registry. They have simply priced them like that.

Thanks Andrew…
great data points…is there any way to get previous years reports.
if similar report is published from Afternic we can say both reports almost reflects entire industry…if Afternic adds Uni data…which has good number of names in its marketplace.
Ravi.

This is the first time they have put out this report, I believe. Afternic’s data would be very different.

thanks Andrew.
Afternic’s data would be different but more insight of enduser and small business purchases…due to GoDaddy brand
