Another product or rebrand is using the Apple brand rather than i.
iPad. iPhone. iThis.
You can credit Apple with making i a popular way to start a product name or domain name. Before Apple started using i, everyone was all in on e.
But this has changed over the past few years as Apple started moving away from the i brand and more to Apple starting with the Apple Watch.
Here’s another example. Apple just registered these domain names:
appleauthor.ca
appleauthor.jp
appleauthor.community
appleauthor.live
apple-author.com
apple-writer.com
appleauthor.net
appleindieauthor.com
applepublisher.com
mac-author.com
myappleauthor.com
apple-author.com
apple-writer.com
appleauthor.net
appleindieauthor.com
applepublisher.com
myappleauthor.com
My best guess at this point is that this is the new brand for what was iBooks Author…but it could be much more.
Ravi says
This might be only related to books…
It can’t dare to do the same with other products like…iTunes…iPad…iPod
As they became generic for themselves…we can often see how people refer other products too with iPad /iPod…that is popularity of those names.
Self publishing book industry is gaining lot of popularity…and ebooks / audio books are dominated by kindle / audible (both are from Amazon)
Apple doesn’t have much part of this market…(except podcasts in iTunes)
And ebooks is generic term and Apple has to struggle to make people use ‘iBooks’ if they go on with branding…
I think this is one point of their thinking..
Andrew Allemann says
Maybe. They rebranded iTunes Podcasts as Apple Podcasts.
John says
Yes, this hardly signifies any retreat, and Ravi is right, they don’t dare ditch “i” from their products unless they are smoking crack.
John says
Okay, well if that really is what they are doing, then pride and arrogance does often lead people to do extremely stupid things. Otherwise more likely the crack.

I think they are smoking weed because that is where the California Wildfires took place, and all that WEED in the backyards of those Northern California Redwoods must’ve burned up all that great cannabis hash oil vapors making Cupertino people high in the sky while they are thinking they are breathing normal clean air, but instead, it’s laced with CANNABIS HASH CRYSTALS FROM ALL THOSE HIGH TEMPERATURE CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES!!!
Ravi says
Yes Andrew..
I heard the disappointment expressed by 4/5 podcast hosts regarding itunes being called as apple podcasts…
Still that is daring move by Apple… because iTunes is highest when it comes to podcasts and also live music…and hosts give utmost importance to its ranking system…as you are aware as a DNW podcast host…
And iPad and iPod are more popular than iTunes so definitely shows impact..
But I think Apple doesn’t care about opinions…they never do.
