Domain sells through SedoMLS network.
The domain name Star.org has sold at Sedo for a staggering $225,000.
Based on sales data at NameBio, this is the third largest .org sale to ever be made public. The top sale was Poker.org in in 2010 (also at Sedo) and the second highest sale was AutoInsurance.org for $440,000 in 2011 (sold via MediaOptions).
The Whois record for the domain has been under privacy for many years. Late last month the privacy was removed and the domain was transferred from Name.com to HiChina with a Chinese registrant.
That registrant just registered Star.vin on February 20.
If you visit Star.org today you’ll see a message that says “welcome to star foundation.” [Update: it’s for a blockchain business]
Sedo confirmed the sale to Domain Name Wire. The sale took place through SedoMLS and it is the highest public sale to date through the MLS system.
Thanks for sharing!
That’s fantastic sale and seller did really well here.
WOW! This is good news for my Star.Red 😀
especially that ~ 70% of .red domains are registered in China.
No, it’s not. Sorry to burst your bubble. Dot .ORG domains have a certain prestige that is due to the TLD’s identification with foundations, start-ups and non-profits. I would not be surprised if it’s related to a cryptocurrency or other blockchain project.
What he said ^
LOL ! What prestige does .vin extension have???
if the buyer registered a domain Star.vin
…at the same time.
Especially if the buyer registered .VIN
then you don’t need to explain to him what a new gTLD is. He already knows about them.
Only a few days ago I noticed that someone bought a domain Star.House for $24,980 USD., 6 months ago (namebio.com)
An unusual high price for such a domain. Now I can guess who bought it (?!) probably the same buyer.
China has a new lifetime emperor, maybe he will purchase your name?
For the emperor, I have – Big,Red
For US – USA.Red
For World – World.Red
Just 4 .red domains I got. $10 renewal prices.
Worth to hold and use.
Big.Red is a huge trademark infringement. Prepare for UDRP from Big Red, Inc., based in Austin, Texas.
Tell me about it. ))
I’ve known this company for many years.
There are very many who have this TM.
More than ten different companies!
So what? Did I break some rules? No!
“Bigred” are registered in more than 50 extensions, and only one domain belongs to the company that you mentioned.
I can register “Apple” and sell apples or something like this…
Stop being afraid of your own shadows and your thoughts! …if you don’t violate anything.
@acro
Yep — my guess, as well.
Nice .Org sale. Congrats!
It looks like that this domain was sold by a similar way as Autism.Rocks was sold, e.g. a donation.
Most organizations whose name includes words “star foundation” charity organisations.
These are good things and deeds anyway.
I was right, it’s a blockchain related project called “The Star BlockChain Network”
What does this change in a question of the formation of such a big price?
Crypto-related company buys a domain from charity organisations for big money…
To settle at $225k, the seller must have first asked for the sun & moon. And turned down significant sums, which might have set records themselves.
That’s particularly daring if the seller didn’t know anything about the buyer beyond the sparse information Sedo usually discloses – country and signup date, no name or email.
