New domain name auction platform launches.
DomainConsultant.com has launched BoxCar.com, a new domain name auction site.
The service is very different from typical marketplaces such as Afternic and Sedo. It focuses on auctions only and you can list lots instead of just single domains. It’s also highly flexible, allowing you to set your own bid increments, buy-it-now option, reserve prices, etc.
BoxCar.com also shuns the typical commission-based fee structure by charging a simple flat fee of $5 per domain name (an introductory price). By charging a flat, up-front fee I suspect the inventory will be void of junk listings.
Other features include:
-Add Facebook or Twitter, Flash or You Tube video to your auction.
-Escrow.com and PayPal integrated
-Boxcar.com/USERNAME profile page (add your Twitter, FB, site, etc.)
-Beta and Preview periods
-RSS feed for all your auctions
-Dynamic Flash widget- updated and embeddable
-Buyers and Sellers Kits
Among the introductory names already on auction are MindGames.com, LegalRecords.com, and SWD.com.
It’s good to have a bid more competition in the form of an additional domain name auction platform, particular because SEDO has extremely stringent requirements for auction inclusion.
Actually, the $5.00 may still be too low. Unless BoxCar has a strategy for sprecifically marketing the site to the larger corporate world, then it will be another domainer to domainer venue.
Hopefully, the fee based listings will skim away the low quality names that detract from a domain site’s credibility & appeal.
Your not kidding Nicco, I’ve sold domains for over $50,000 that Sedo would not list. Their reasoning is that the domains did not meet the quality measures they have in place.
Nice to have some new competition.
How’s this any different than Ebay?. At least sites like Bido and Sedo are unique in their own way, boxcar to me is just another ebay clone. Both Ebay & Boxcar require “listing” fees, BC doesn’t have any commission on final sales like EB, but EB has a lot more traffic than BC.
A new sales platform like this could be good
for the industry.
I agree with Menius. If they don’t receive
traffic from possible endusers, it will be
a waste of time and money for sellers.
We don’t need another domainer to domainer
sales platform.
they say… “No commission on sales, no hidden fees, no exclusivity contracts or periods” …forever or just to launch the site?
meh, another lame auction site, just what the world needed.
One other possible downside is whether DomainConsultant.com have myopic .com tunnel vision. Hope I’m wrong. It’s more than a .com only world today.
From the BoxCar site it states there will be active promotion outside of the domain name industry.
Of course it will be domainer to domainer. Who does anyone think is going out and getting “end users” ? And usually when a domainer says end user they mean big company who will spend a lot. So boxcar for you paying $5 to sell your fashion domain is going out and contacting the marketing manage of Coach or Tiffanys ? Yeah right. Most domain sales are domainer to domainer. That’s not changing no matter who is talking the hype. Again IMO
