Here are ten domains I think are worth the money in this week’s domain auction.
Heritage Auctions’ second domain name auction takes place April 9.
It’s difficult to place bets on which domains will sell, especially for the higher-end domains. It depends on if someone watching the auction has pockets deep enough to pay six figures for a domain name.
That said, here are ten domains I really like in the auction at varying price levels*:
CorpusChristi.com ($150,000 reserve) – this is a huge tourist destination, which means monetization options are more clear than with the typical city domain name.
Creek.com ($60,000 reserve) – not a domain for investors, but if I’m Coldwater Creek I think this price is a no-brainer.
DEC.com ($50,000 reserve) – This is the fifth oldest domain on the internet and has a rich history. Lots of hits on the acronym. Might be steep for an investor but frankly, I think it’s worth six figures.
PoliticalScience.com ($25,000 reserve) – multiple angles on this one, including degree/education lead gen.
RedSea.com ($22,222 reserve) – I own EgyptianPyramids.com and figure the value has been affected by decreasing tourism in Egypt. Red Sea tourism might also be in the doldrums. But this domain means so much more than tourism.
BaseballJerseys.com ($10,000 reserve) – BaseballCap.com was recently on NameJet and got bid up in the thousands. BaseballJerseys.com is a better domain.
NicotinePatch(es).com ($8,000 reserve for the pair) – seems like a no-brainer for a seller of these patches, doesn’t it?
SilverDimes.com ($7,000 reserve) – I don’t know much about coin collecting, but I remember hunting for silver dimes as a kid.
Wayside.com ($5,555 reserve) – so many places, schools, etc. are called Wayside. Whether or not you can sell those places a domain for this much is questionable, though.
MercuryMan.com ($250 reserve) – includes IP rights to comic character. Someone could run with this.
* Reserves don’t include buyer’s premium of 15%.

From a branding perspective, these are the best of the bunch, IMHO:
Future.com
Digital.com
Skinny.com
Creek.com
RedSea.com
BlueEyes.com
DarkCastle.com
WineAdvice.com
All of the above will likely sell (very low reserve prices for end-users). The rest of the list is domainer crap.
