Domain sales site to open up auction platform to individual domain owners.
Afternic plans to open up its auction feature this year to allow individual domain owners to submit domains for auction, the company disclosed in an online web conference. Currently, Afternic’s auctions only include domains that have met their reserve. I imagine this will work somewhat like Sedo’s auctions, where you can list qualified domains with a specific closing time but retain a reserve.
Also disclosed in the web conference:
-80% of the domains NameMedia (Afternic’s parent company including BuyDomains) sold in 2007 were to small and medium sized businesses. In other words, end users.
-$1,500 to $5,000 is the sweet spot for selling domains through Afternic. This represents what most small businesses can afford to spend on a domain. The buyer pool over $5,000 is limited.
-Appraised domains are 10x more likely to be sold. (Personally, I’d only buy an appraisal on showcase domains or domains that you’ve received lots of interest on.)
Afternic seller memberships are $19.95 per year. If you only list your domains on other domain sales platforms, I highly recommend also adding them to Afternic and selecting extended promotion. Use the company’s bulk upload tool to quickly add the domains.
WWW.CollisionDomains.com says
Sedo is considered to be the best. The only reason is he doesnt need any membership fee. most of us feel, if i had 20 bucks i will register 3 .com domains. Just park it and sell. I feel sedo sells more compared to afternic. The only problem with sedo is, it places a domain for auction only when its reserve is met. Even then it over comes with a special item called “a monthly premium domain auctions” but it rejects much more saying it doesnt mets our standards. domain tools is also started its round table. we can just load our domains for auction with no Fee
If afternic overcomes all these loop holes, its success rate will be much more higher
Best Regards
