GoDaddy CEO named as possible successor to Steve Ballmer at Microsoft

Wall Street Journal says Irving might be a candidate for Microsoft’s top spot.

With Steve Ballmer heading to the exit at Microsoft within the next year, speculation about his replacement is rampant.

One name that has come up: Blake Irving, who took over the reigns at domain name registrar GoDaddy earlier this year.

Wall Street Journal published a story naming five possible successors, including Irving. Apparently the list was conjured up after the reporter spoke to analysts who said they think (hope?) the new CEO will be an outsider.

Irving spent over a decade at Microsoft.

My take? Irving would prefer to stay at a fast growing, pre-IPO company. But I’m sure he’ll at least take Microsoft’s phone call.

Blake would take the job at Microsoft in a second. He is purely a tech guy. I have met him a few times and I think he would do a great job anywhere to be honest.

Yeah, now that I think about it, you’d have to be pretty crazy to pass on the MSFT CEO position, unless you have enough money that you just prefer to be a “fun” and smaller company. I assume MSFT would go for someone with more public company c-suite experience.

Wow, I can’t wait. Imagine turning on the next version of Windows. Might take 15 minutes as they try to up sell you on everything including your dog’s dinner choices. Should be exciting!!!!
