Company files trademark application with broad description.
Last week Marchex filed an intent-to-use trademark application for “Archeo”.
The field of use is so broad that it’s hard to pin down exactly what it’s for. The company has shifted its business to focus on pay-per-call and mobile marketing over the past few years.
Here’s how Marchex describes Archeo in its trademark application:

So you’ve got local marketing, domain name sales, e-commerce and more all wrapped up into one.
Marchex owns the domain name Archeo.com, which it acquired when it bought Yun Ye’s Ultimate Search portfolio.
It will be interesting to see what Marchex is up to…

Possibly Marchex is simply trying to protect the domain ?? as I see archeoofficial.com is being developed and has quite a few tld’s.
Andrew Allemann says
@ John UK – I doubt it. I’ve never seen them take this approach before.
I think it’s something bigger…maybe even a rebranding.
Bob the builder says
These guys are not nearly as smart or tactical as everyone gives them credit for. In 10 years their stock has gone absolutely nowhere and they’ve done nothing more than bleed their portfolio of good names to prop up their misadventures in other go nowhere spaces. i thought about comparing them to Michael Jackson buying the Beatles catalog, but that’s too disrespectful to Jackson who actually had talent of his own.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Bob the Buider – “In 10 years their stock has gone absolutely nowhere”
That’s not true. Their stock has gone way, way, down.
