Offers.com Owner Jumps in to Crowded Market with DailyDeals.com

Vertive may have a solution to a crowded market: a great domain name.

DailyDeals.comIt’s hard to get attention in the daily deals business these days. You need a killer domain name to have a chance.

Enter Vertive and Steve Schaffer, which already operates discount site Offers.com (and owns Offer.com).

The company just launched DailyDeals.com. The site will offer discounts to online stores, which is a natural extension from the company’s background on Offers.com.

Schaffer, who sometimes attends domain name industry shows, appears to have purchased the domain name from iREIT back in 2009 in a private transaction.

Schaffer founded Vertive in 2003 and the company took a $7M growth equity investment from Susquehanna Growth Equity last year.

With such a premium domain, they definitely got an edge to launch a new daily deal site.

The competition is fierce because it’s profitable. Good timing … as the holiday shopping season approaches, a lot of moolah there!

Congrats to Steve on the great domain name acquisition and looks like the launch is well-timed right when daily deals will be getting the most attention with the Groupon IPO.

I think it’s a good idea that he’s focusing on national deals rather than local, which differentiates his site from the rest.

That’s the right way to enter that market now that it’s saturated – get seen with an amazing domain.
