Domain Name Wire on Go Daddy Radio Show

I’ll have an open talk with Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons next week.

I’ve written a lot of good things about domain registrar GoDaddy over the past few years. But I’ve also called the company out numerous times when it did no-so-good things: such as Standard Tactics.

Yesterday Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons called me to talk about Standard Tactics and invite me to be his guest on next week’s Radio GoDaddy show. I accepted the offer.

On Today’s Radio Go Daddy show, Parsons pumped up the appearance saying it will be a good show with “a lot of controversy”. “I thought it would be fun to have one of our critics on the phone again,” Parsons said on the show. “He can say anything he wants. It will be a spirited discussion.”

Our phone conversation yesterday was brief, but Parsons did tell me that GoDaddy is making a change to TDNAM auctions based on the idea that setting higher starting prices for high traffic domains is like GoDaddy bidding against its customers. Parsons said he hadn’t thought of the higher starting prices that way, and you should see a change to how the system works very soon.

Next week’s show will be broadcast live at 4 PM Wednesday at RadioGoDaddy.com.

“Next week’s show will be broadcast live at 4 PM Wednesday at RadioGoDaddy.com.”

For those that miss it, all the radio shows are archived for replay going back to 1995, I believe.

    WOW!

Congrats on the scoop. I give you credit for being a guest and Bob credit for having you on.

Also, I look forward to the more fair pricing on TDNAM.

    Great work!

    Bob’s awesome :)

Love or hate Godaddy, I think we can all admit Bob is good for the industry.

@ Rob – you’re going to like the changes on TDNAM assuming there’s follow through.

I think Bob’s a good guy. As he told me on the phone yesterday, he doesn’t take anything personally…it’s just business. I’m sure we won’t agree on everything, but I give him credit for addressing it.

    1. Tell him to change that stupid 60 day transfer hold for simple whois changes or at least ask him why GoDaddy is the only registrar I know that does that.

    2. Do give him credit as the only registrar I know that let’s you accept a transfer out so the receiving party doesn’t have to wait five days for a transfer.

    3. See if you can get him to attend DomainFest or TRAFFIC.

Good luck. He’s a former Marine and you are going into the lion’s den. Stand your ground on the facts as you know them and this issue will be completely and publicly addressed.

Bob Parson’s is GREAT for our industry.

@ Rob: You should be able to rectify #1 by talking to your rep. My rep helped a friend of mine get his 60 day hold off a domain he sold.

    Have fun Andrew! :)

    Good work!

    Good to know. Thank you.

  11. December 11th, 2008 | 4:36 pm

Oh boy, this is going to be fun to listen to!!!!

  12. December 11th, 2008 | 4:48 pm

Sounds great Andrew; just don’t let the wily Mr. Bob hoodwink or strong arm you.

Keep those verbal bats & spears moving…

Oooh! And just look at all the GoDaddy folks stopping by for a visit again. ;-)

Kudos to BP for inviting you on.

That’s awesome Andrew. I was just listening to his radio show and he mentioned that he spoke with you yesterday. I look forward to the show next week.

I too have an interview with Bob coming up, mine will not be on the radio show :(

Funny how Bob states he did not think having high starting bids could be seen as bidding against customers.

Here’s a man that is successful enough to have a $2mm party for his employees yet he fails to see a conflict of interest.

Awesome Andrew! Your meeting is CRITICAL for the domaining industry. Combined with recent news about the Jan ’09 resurrection of bido.com and of Google ‘officially’ entering the domain parking business, I gotta say It’s exciting times in domainland.

‘TRUST’ will take center stage in 2009.

Awesome. Andrew you will definitely go down in history in this industry as being an important and influential guy. I figure soon I’ll be reading about you in future editions of books like “The Domain Game”.

googlemial.com, with traffic=1887/mo, is available on tdnam right now for a $3995 offer.

Heh, that single entry is worth about two hours of discussion…
