Auction will be limited to 30 high quality domain names.
Heritage Auctions is trying something different for its next domain name auction: it will be a super-exclusive event held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
What makes it so exclusive? There will only be 30 domain names at the auction. That’s the smallest (in terms of number of lots) live domain auction I can recall.
It also means the inventory will be limited to high quality, one word domain names plus two and three character domains.
The auction will be held February 9, and Heritage Auctions is still seeking qualified domain name submissions.
More information, including domain submission guidelines, are available on the HA.com website.

Interesting. . . I emailed Heritage Auctions to ask if they were considering auctioning .NYC domain names and now that I read this post I’m scratching my head. I mean, The Waldorf Astoria is one of New York City’s most prestigious hotels. Why not??
“Hello, quick question. . . does your company plan on holding a .NYC Gtld auction soon now that these new extensions are hot right now?
Regards”

Thank you for your inquiry. We currently do not have any auctions arranged based on the recent developments for extensions on domain names. However, please allow me to include the contact information for our consignment director within the Intellectual Property department who may be able to provide further insight.
Thank you and have a great day!
2nd Reply: “Thank you.
Shaun is correct, we are holding mainly .com auctions going forward.

I don’t understand. What is surprising about this?

I don’t know, I’m no expert in the industry but the time couldn’t be more right than now for HA to do an auction for premium .nyc domains. What do u think?
Andrew Allemann says
The aftermarket for new TLDs is very limited right now. .Com domains are worth more, and they want to have a truly premium auction.
That said, I think the .NYC registry could hold a successful auction in the city. In Texas they’ve done auctions for higher-quality personalized license plates.

P.S. And it’s the Waldorf Astoria hotel. . . .nyc auction there would be fitting.

It will be interesting to see the results of these auctions. At least this is something new and innovative in some way. Good for them!
Geo says
wow if these people don’t add .nyc domain to their auctions at the Waldorf Astoria hotel they are pretty stupid. .nyc domain would sell for much much more than .com in New York city auction. The end users would love to own a piece of the big apple.

30% commission will keep from ever listing anything at these auctions.

I personally don’t understand the appeal/effect of a live auction for a purely virtual asset…
