Big name auction house hopes to introduce domain name auctions to a wider audience.
Will Heritage Auctions be able to bring the concept of domain name auctions beyond just the domain industry? We’re about to find out.
The company’s first domain name auction will kick off November 1 online. Bidding will run through the live event taking place in New York City November 21.
The auction house’s initiative is being spearheaded by long time domain name investor Aron Meystedt.
Although the auction list has not been released yet, Meystedt told Domain Name Wire that there a number of two and three letter domain names among the 70-75 total names. There are also many high quality one and two word domains in the auction.
“A lot of the names line up with the clientele we already have,” said Meystedt. For example, many of the domain names will be related to coins, as Heritage Auctions is active with collectible coin auctions.
The company will market to its existing clientele as well as undertake direct marketing to a number of companies and high net worth individuals.
“I’ve been wanting a big auction company to do this for a long time, to see how affluent buyers react to this,” said Meystedt.
But Meystedt also hopes to court domainers to the auction.
“The participation of domainers is very, very, very important,” he said. “While I’m trying to target the affluent buyer base, without domainer participation it’s not really going to go anywhere.”
One thing’s for sure. A successful auction will be good for the entire domain name industry.
I wish Aron great success. It’s a new sales channel.
