pair Networks takes issue with music app called PairShare.
Web hosting company pair Networks has sued Pairshare, LLC for trademark infringement.
PairShare offers an app that lets people share music between iPhones, iPods, and iPads via bluetooth.
In the lawsuit (pdf), pair Networks argues that PairShare violates its trademarks, including for the term “Pair”.
Although pair Networks doesn’t compete directly with PairShare, it argues that offering downloadable apps is a logical extension of its business.
It’s asking PairShare to hand over its domain name as well as its Twitter and Facebook handles.
pair Networks has sued a number of companies over the use of the term “pair”. Last year it sued a company that released an app called simply “Pair”.
It has also purchased a number of domains on the aftermarket that include the term pair, including: $1,000 for PairBlog.com, $800 for PairMail.com, $1,400 for PairWeb.com, $1,000 for GetPaired.com, 1,800 EUR for Pair.it, and $1,200 for PearCloud.com (it doesn’t even own the pair version).
