Two companies in the domain name business returned to the Inc. 5000 this year, and one other made it for the first time.
Three domain name companies made the Inc 5000 list this year.
Companies are ranked according to their three year revenue growth through 2021 and must apply to make the list.
Identity Digital, the top level domain name company formerly known as Donuts, grew 184% and landed at number 2,937 on the list. The company was also on last year’s list.
BrandBucket, a brandable domain marketplace, made the list for the first time at 4,027 with 120% growth.
Whois API, a domain name data company, grew 84% and eeked onto the list at 4,868. The company has been on the list every year since 2017, with the exception of 2020.
Growth includes both organic and acquisition. Both Identity Digital and Whois API acquired businesses during the past three years. Most notably, Identity Digital swallowed Afilias.
Tomorrow, I’ll publish an analysis of domains-as-companies in this year’s list.
This story has been edited to add BrandBucket. Sorry for the oversight.
