Sending Alexa to space and flushing money down the drain.
Lockheed Martin announced last week that it worked with Amazon and Cisco on technology for space flight. Essentially, they’re going to test how Amazon’s Alexa and Cisco’s WebEx could help in space flight.
This is a very B-to-B play without a consumer angle. I don’t think Amazon needed to register any domain names defensively for this project.
Yet it registered over 50.
Can anyone explain what good registering alexa-artemis-1-mission.com will do to protect Amazon’s brand? Would a cybersquatter somehow mess up the company’s plans by registering alexaonboardorion.com? Would amazonalexainouterspace.com be used in a phishing attack?
Apparently, someone at Amazon was worried. Or someone is getting paid by the domain to register these domains.
Here are 54 out-of-this-world domain registrations related to Alexa in space:

Many domain name administrators and lawyers don’t understand what kinds of domain names get type-in traffic.
Maybe some of them will get exact match search traffic, if only they had rich content on them.
But multi-word exact match domains don’t get to page one of Google without relevant content.
It’s the same reason why some trademark owners file udrp complaints against domains that will never get traffic. It’s driven by lawyers and panelists who don’t understand modern SEO.
