Domain marketplace releases a treasure trove of data from the past three years.
Domain name marketplace Uniregistry has released detailed data on its domain name sales between 2016-2018.
The company brokered 5,445 domains for a total of $50.1 million last year, up from $38.9 million in 2017. (The 2018 number is below what Uniregistry VP of Sales Jeff Gabriel expected going into the fourth quarter of last year.)
To sell 5,445 domains, the company made 383,104 phone calls and sent nearly 22 million emails. That’s an average of 70 calls and 4,000 emails per domain sold!
Uniregistry’s biggest sale in 2018 was a two-word domain that sold for over $1 million. 58 domains sold for at least $100,000. One of those was a .net and another was a .co.uk. The others were .com.
The median sales price for 2018 was $3,500. This is higher than other marketplaces such as GoDaddy/Afternic and Sedo, likely because Uniregistry focuses on brokered transactions and doesn’t have a syndicated buy-now listing platform.
How many domains listed with Unireg and what % of listed domains is sold per year ?
It seems that they sell much, much less than 1% of listed names per sale. I think this is because it’s not a syndicated system and their sellers often ask for higher prices than what domains sell for on other markets. That’s evidenced by the median price at Uni being 2x-3x that of other platforms.
How many of the sold names were Franks and how many were 3rd party names ??
70 calls and 4000 emails. That seems like a LOT of spam to me. Count me in on receiving some of those emails
BTW when you said detailed data. I figured there’d be a report of the names sold. No list of what sold ? Personally, I’d like to see real numbers with real domains tied to them but this trend reporting, as seen with Brandbucket and now Uni, is pretty opaque .
They reported some of those in the past to DNJournal. Regarding the calls and emails, almost all (maybe ALL?) are in response to requests. So someone submits and inquiry on the domain and they respond via email/call.
Could you, a least, verify which .co.uk sold for over a hundred grand?
They said most are covered under NDA
Thanks.
How much do Sedo and Afternic sell
on an annual basis ?
