Nice interview as always Andrew.
Dynadot is great and registrar with excellent support. They have a lot of great features you don’t notice until you’ve had to use a ton of different terrible registrars.
Only thing I wish was that the UI was improved. It feels like a registrar for engineers and techies. I guess that is who it appeals to.
It’s nice they have stayed independent for so long. Hope Todd continues to run it.
The problem with their expired domain auction is that the registrant can still renew the domain even after you win an auction. This is because their auctions are held whilst the domain is still in redemption period.
I didn’t realize that. Same with GoDaddy. At what point in the redemption period does the auction take place? I imagine customers have to pay a redemption fee to renew once it makes it to auction.
Pretty close to the end of the redemption period. In the past few months, I have won 3 auctions and after I paid for the names the money was refunded because the registrant renewed. I have now stopped bidding at these auctions. At least with other platforms (dropcatch for example) if you are the winner of the expired auction you are guranteed of acquiring the name.Yes they would pay a redemption fee if they renew.
Our expired auctions start at day 30 and run for 7 days. The original registrant can renew during the full redemption period even if the domain is purchased in auction. We recently added a $10 fee for domains renewed after day 30 and we have seen a significant decrease in the number of domains renewed after auctions have completed.
DYNADOT do NOT register domains straight away!!!
You register domain names @ Dynadot and they will still be unregistered and left for ANYONE to register more than 24 HOURS LATER!!!
The last thing you need!
Every single time you register domains @ Dynadot you have to then contact them directly to ask ‘permission’ to register domains. EVERY TIME!
Absolutely NOT user friendly or domainer friendly!
Totally unbelievable that Dynadot does NOT register the domains straight away in 2019 !!
DYNADOT IS THE WORST DOMAIN COMPANY!!!
DYNADOT DOMAIN OFFERS ARE BULLSHIT!!!
You place an order, they take your money, don’t register the domains, STEAL your time, keep you waiting and still don’t register the domains!!!
Even in the small chance they register the domains after repeatedly telling them to they CANCEL the order so it is still the same as NOT registering the domains in the first place!!!
DYNADOT = BULLSHIT!!!
DYNADOT HAVE STOLEN MY MONEY
