A recap from NamesCon plus Roland LaPlante of Afilias.
This week I have a wide-ranging discussion with Roland LaPlante, Chief Marketing Officer of Afilias. We discuss new top level domain names and why Afilias’ past experience with launching TLDs made its expectations for the current round more realistic. We also chat about increased competition for backend registry services, the challenges of restricted TLDs and Afilias’ fight for .Web. I also recap last week’s NamesCon conference and have five short interviews from the event.

I don’t understand what Roland says at 19:40. Any idea?

Great interview.
Interesting to hear the reasons for not putting any marketing $ behind their products.
I think I will do the same. Not put any time or resources into extensions that aren’t marketed.
.Web – Just my take, -boring.- redundant.
The new anti-trust issue could lead to horizontal conduct as well as single firm conduct. Could turn out to be good for the entire industry and not just a few.
