Board approves agreement that will govern new top level domain operators.
The New gTLD Program Committee of the ICANN Board of Directors has approved the registry agreement that will be signed by most new TLD operators.
The 93 page agreement governs how top level domain operators must manage their namespaces, fees they’ll pay ICANN, and under what conditions ICANN can terminate the registry relationship.
ICANN’s press release regarding the registry agreement lists four “key points” about the contract, all of which have to do with protections for trademark holders.
With the registry agreement firmed up, attention will now fully shift to resolving Governmental Advisory Committees advice.
