Despite competition, TRAFFIC ranks as most popular domain conference.
A survey of 400 domain professionals shows that T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is still the top domain name industry conference. 56% of respondents voted for TRAFFIC, more than twice the votes of the second place conference.
Here are the results:
1. TRAFFIC 56%
2. DOMAINfest 24%
3. Domain Roundtable 11%
4. GeoDomain Expo 10%
Survey results were collected in January and part of February.
The biggest gainer this year was the GeoDomain Expo, which grew from 5% to 10%. Between the last survey and this year’s survey GeoDomain Expo held its biggest ever conference. Surprisingly, DNJournal is reporting that this year’s GeoDomain Expo in San Diego will not be held this year due to the economy. I suspect there’s something more to the story than the economy; I believe the event still would have attracted a large audience this year. I left a voice mail with Associated Geo’s Patrick Carleton on Friday but have not yet heard back.
The next TRAFFIC conference will be held in April in Silicon Valley. In June Domain Roundtable will hold the first ever major domain name conference in Washington, D.C.
What else could be the reason for GeoDomainExpo cancellation?
Just wondering?
Ron made a posting today saying that the Geo conference might not be cancelled.
More is coming out tomorrow.

(Andrew, sorry about putting a link to DNJ.)
@ Domainer @ RKB – no need to apologize about linking to DNJ. Ron is a good friend, as are Elliot, the guys at DNN, etc.
I know that a major player(s) in Associated Geos recently resigned from the board. So there’s definitely some sort of issue going on there. Hopefully they get it back on track.
The source on the cancellation item was Skip Hoagland. Skip has been trying to tear down Associated Cities to promote his own “Geodomain.com” company while also serving on the AC board then leaking internal board information.
He is the registrant of the competitive http://whois.domaintools.com/geoexpo.com
Fortunately, there is a lot of popular support for the expo, so Ron’s unfortunate post hasn’t dimmed enthusiasm for the Expo… in fact, it has created a groundswell.
This, plus the fact that the Geodomain Expo always has the best looking attendees 😉
Just curious on the Survey Results… Any additional information can be provided? I.e. how was the information collected, who was invited to participate in the survey, etc.?
Shane – it was a non-scientific survey posted on this web site. It was set up to randomize choices and only accept one survey from each person.
