Here’s a look back at the domain name industry over the past month.
November is here and we’re entering the holiday season. That means lots of web traffic for shopping, and it also means I’m turning 30 in just a few days (bummer). But before we look forward to winter, here’s a look back at the top 5 domain name stories for last month, based on unique visitors.
1. Demand Media Offers Cash for .TV Channels. Based on comments to this story, some people like this idea, others hate it.
2. Cowboys.com Sells (Again) for $370,000. A look at results from Moniker’s silent domain name auction. Hats of to Domain Name News for tracking down the Cowboys story.
3. GoDaddy increases .com prices 12%. As VeriSign increased wholesale prices on .com domains 7%, GoDaddy decided to raise its .com prices 12%. So when GoDaddy lobbied that VeriSign’s increase would have to be passed on to its customers, it really meant it would use the opportunity to increase its profit margins. As one reader pointed out, however, GoDaddy’s discount club prices increased by less than 7%.
4. Network Solutions to Launch Domain Name Auction Service? Domain Name Wire broke this story to the domain industry (despite what you may read otherwise), but props go to Trademork for uncovering this trademark application.
5. The Domain Name Auction Scene is a-Changin’. GoDaddy enters the premium auction market, NameJet launches, hold onto your hats!
