A half dozen more new TLDs make their entrance this week.
Six new top level domain names debut this week, with .Sydney already having launched yesterday. Here’s a rundown.
.Sydney – this Australian geo domain name launched yesterday. The domain isn’t carried by some of the bigger U.S. registrars, but some of the major Australian registrars have it. They aren’t cheap. Instra is asking $85. For some reason MelbourneIT quoted me $240, which must be for multiple years.
The rest of this week’s domain names launch on Tuesday:
.party – Famous Four Media has been quite for a while, but they’re back with two domain this week. Pricing seems to be about $25-$30.
.cricket – shop around on this sports domain name from Famous Four. 101Domain is charging only $2.49. United Domains wants $69. GoDaddy is charging $49, which it says is half of its regular $99 price. I don’t get the pricing.
.yoga – Minds + Machines debuts this athletics related domain name this week. Pricing is around $25-$30 retail.
.vote and .voto – You’ve got to pay for democracy, apparently. GoDaddy has “discounted” the price of these domain names to $69, which makes me think it’s targeted at politicians who will feel compelled to register their names. It should do better than .republican and .democrat, but that’s not saying much.

The cheapest .SYDNEY is AU$80 and that is on sale with the price to be AU$100
I have noticed that some non Australian based registrars quote US$85 which fails to take into account PREMIUM pricing so your $240 may well have been for a premium listing.
All 3 letter domains are around AU$135 with some being far more based on the PREMIUM status.
A few days prior to GA, Premium .Sydney were priced at 2x that of Premium .Melbourne though that might have been due to landrush unless they changed their prices at the last minute (They harped on about having learned from the .Melbourne launch which coincided with a higher premium pricing so I have a feeling they were hoping to play catch up on their expectations for .Melbourne failing…ARI stated that the downturn in registrations Dec/Jan surprised them)

Instra charged me $240 1 year. Pricing for Melbourne IT is always high. They’re a rip.
