1&1 slapped for new TLD commercials, Donuts wins more auctions, and other domain name news from around the web.
There was a lot of domain name news this morning that other bloggers have done a good job covering. Here’s a quick roundup.
1&1′s new gTLD ads banned for “misleading” viewers – Kevin Murphy writes about how the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that 1&1’s “pre-registration” ads for new top level domain names have been banned for being misleading.
Donuts wins three private new TLD auctions – Murphy also spotted that Donuts won private auctions for .church, .life, and loans.
A WTF article about new top level domain names – If I had a dollar for every time I read an inaccurate news article about new top level domain names, I’d be a rich man. If I had a dollar for every inaccuracy in this single article, I think I’d be a rich man. Did you know that John Berryhill runs The Domains and companies can soon switch from .com to .chicago? Neither did I. (Incidentally, this article was written in a Wrapports Publication. They recently bought Chicago.com.)
Sedo announces top 10 domain sales of 2013 – While I appreciate that Sedo wants to announce its top sales, I think the language of its press release does the industry a disservice. It doesn’t make it clear that these are just Sedo’s top sales, and that there were seven figure deals elsewhere.
