The whois complaint form is now part of ICANN’s web site.
Long time readers know that I’m not a fan of videos when you can explain something with text.
Yet I realize that how one person prefers to consume media isn’t necessarily the same as everyone. So today I’m posting my first DNW “How To” video.
The video shows how to submit an invalid whois report on ICANN.org. ICANN recently added the whois complaint form directly to its web site, but the process is similar to what it has been for many years.
Watch the video and let me know if this is helpful. If people like it, expect more videos in the future. If they don’t, I’ll mark it down in my failed experiment diary.

So what happens after you file the complaint? If the info is invalid, do you get ownership of the domain name or is it deleted? If it gets deleted, do they tell you when it is going to be deleted? How long does it take for the whole process to play out?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Mike – the registrar works with the registrant to correct the information. A “good” registrar will suspend the domain if the information doesn’t get correct. It usually won’t be deleted if there’s still time left on the registration. As the person who submitted the complaint you don’t get anything — except hopefully a correct whois on the domain.
Mike says
When you get all those annual whois update forms it says you will lose your domain if the information is not correct. So there is no real benefit to filing this out if you are trying to buy a domain, you may as well wait for it to expire.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Mike – usually they say you “might” lose your domain.

nothing happened in godaddy after i filed a invalid whois for a fake whois domain !
Andrew Allemann says
@ Chandan – since Go Daddy charges a fee, I find that difficult to believe.

I did receive an email right after I submitted a complaint through the form. I just reply the confirmation email and after that no email from ICANN.
