City registers multiple domain names for new branding campaign.
I write about municipalities fumbling domain names all the time, so it’s nice to be able to write about the opposite.
The city of Soledad, California is seizing on the nearby Pinnacles being elevated to National Park status by rebranding itself as the “Gateway to the Pinnacles.”
It has smartly registered nine domain names related to this new slogan, reports the L.A. Times.
The story mentions only two of the nine domains Soledad registered: gatewaytopinnacles.com and gatewaytopinnaclesnationalpark.com. Both domains forward to the city’s main web site, CityofSoledad.com. (Frank Schilling owns Soledad.com.)
Soledad is best known for being the home of two prisons. Its population sans inmates is around 17,000.

Very well done. I like city domain names in the form “CityOf.com” and it seems they’re gaining traction.

Soledad is Spanish for Solitude. Fitting name for a quiet prison town.
