GoDaddy.co Super Bowl commercial is very different from its predecessors.
Last night .co tweeted a link to its Super Bowl commercial.
I’ve watched it a few times (it’s embedded below) so I can fully grasp what’s going on.
The basic idea makes sense: a lot of other people have your same idea for a web site. Go register it today.
But from there I make these observations:
1. The ad doesn’t really promote .co that much. Sure, .co sits on the screen the whole time, the URL on the screen is GoDaddy.co, and the announcer tells you to register your .co domain at the end. Although that’s a lot of screen time for .co, I think the commercial’s message could have been used just as easily to promote another top level domain.
2. I get the punch line with the guy who put the idea online first being on a private jet, but I don’t get the Sky Waitress punch line.
3. Danica Patrick is in the commercial — but just barely. Less than a second?
4. This commercial is a big departure for Go Daddy given the complete lack of bare skin or any sexual innuendo.
What do you think?

I have no idea what the sky waitress comment is supposed to be either, and just take it as GoDaddy’s inability to let go of sexism in its advertising.
And I assume they used dot-co because it’s the most lucrative for them. But it doesn’t matter, the message is “use Go Daddy,” not any particular tld.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know that if you let your .co expire by say 21 days after the expire date (i.e. domain expires 3rd Jan and on 24th Jan) does the Registry OR Registrar change your name servers and put up a Parking type page advertising .co domains ?.

.co definitely seems to be an afterthought. I agree there

Skywaitresses are for the wealthy. Of course, you wouldn’t understand. 😉 It’s the idea that I’m so rich and goofy I’m dressed like an ass and have made up my own words to call things. I’m too cool for a stewardess. I have a skywaitress.
Another example of rich people calling things something different : “problem elephant” 😉

Probably had to put her in. An appropriate cameo role . . . but her laugh. wow

Yea what a let down…. 😉
I don’t think it’s going to carry the traffic in that their past ads did.

re Danica Patrick, they probably put her in there so she can increase her record number of Super Bowl commercial appearances.
