Democrats register two domain names that could be used to attack Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney’s attempt to bet Rick Perry $10,000 during a televised debate is the latest (non-issue) making waves in the Republican primaries. His opponents are seizing the opportunity.
It appears the Democratic National Committee registered the domain names Bet10k.com and Bet10k.org yesterday at GoDaddy. Both of the domains names are protected with a whois privacy service but the nameservers on them belong to the democrats: NS1.DEMOCRATS.ORG.
This doesn’t necessarily prove that the Democrats registered the domain names. Anyone can change their nameservers to whatever they want. But I’d be willing to bet the Democratic National Committee is behind the registrations. (I would not bet $10,000, however).
Another domain, 10kBet.com, is now live on the internet. Although also protected by whois privacy, a notice on the bottom says it’s the work of republican rival Jon Huntsman.

The .net is still available (at the moment, I’m sure). Not sure why they would neglect the .net.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Don – I think that’s telling. In this case if they only could get 2 domains then com and org are the ones to get…but why not pay another $10 for .net?
Don says
@ Andrew – If you don’t mind me asking, why would a .org be more coveted than a .net? I always assumed a .net was better if you’re not representing an organization.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Don – depends on the use. For politics .org is often preferred because it’s an organization and/or non-profit.
