How to keep your blog active when you’re on the road.
I’ve been traveling a lot over the past month, some for pleasure and some for work. As a blogger this adds a bit of stress.
My readers expect me to provide relevant and consistent domain name industry coverage. A week away from the blog would kill its momentum.
While traveling sometimes means being away from the internet or not having time to blog as much, there are ways to keep the momentum going while you’re on the road. Here’s what I do.
1. Write evergreen articles. These articles aren’t about breaking news. Some articles could be published any month of the year and would still be relevant. Others are based on recent events but can be published within a week’s timeframe and still be timely.
I try to write a few of these posts before traveling so that I can easily queue them up for publishing on the road.
2. Solicit guest posts. I try to line some up before going on vacation. Most guest posts are evergreen or at least don’t need to be published on a specific day.
3. Check in. I try to check in on the news a couple times a day while traveling. If there’s something critical I write a post about it. If it can wait I’ll write a “second day lead” (e.g. analysis) when I get back from traveling.
One of the bigger challenges I have is when traveling to the west coast. By the time I wake up I feel like I’m a couple hours behind already because of the time difference. For west coast travel I try to pre-publish articles the night before so I have something up by the time I wake up.

Hey, don’t stress yourself out, just keep us readers in the loop and we will understand.
