Settling some misinformation, hat tip to Moniker, and TRAFFIC.
Don’t Make ASSumptions
I try not to make assumptions. I pick up the phone and call when I have a question. Why? Every time I do make an assumption, it comes back to bite me. You know what they say about making ASSumptions, right?
So let’s set the record straight on Sedo and the EverythingEverywhere.com domain name sale. They didn’t throw anyone under the bus. I think that was quit clear even from The Register’s article, which stated:
“The deal was sealed with a private offer/counter-offer negotiation through the auction house Sedo.”
So it was obvious that someone went to Sedo and submitted an offer for the domain name. As always, the name of the buyer wasn’t disclosed in the interface. The buyer and seller agreed to a deal and it was done.
Now we have confirmation that that’s what happened. Unfortunately the damage has already been done; a lot of people read the original allegation and never got the follow up.
Hats off to Monte and Crew
One week doesn’t make a trend, but my hats off to the Moniker/Snap team for good results this week. 2 seven figure deals including a whopper. After a strong first quarter, is it possible that Moniker’s big ticket sales prowess is back?
Notice too that these big ticket sales occurred after Chef Patrick joined the company. I’m just sayin…
Traffic is Booked
I’ve booked my travel to TRAFFIC Vancouver. I hope to see you there. If you didn’t heed my advice, you can still go for $595.

Is there a defense that Owen Frager’s post at fragerfactor.com wasn’t dangerously close to libel?
Certainly there is financial harm in stating that a company is engaging in misrepresention without factual basis, no?
From the linked article:
“But it seems Sedo has a different agenda. A hidden alliance. And that is with the big corporations with whom they work in stealth mode to get the LEAST amount from the listor so the buyer can walk away with a bargain.”
Gun Cleaning Kit says
I was amazed the “under the bus” blog was as viewed as it was.
I sold a domain for $5k, it resold 5 months later for 50K.
Could I use $45K? You betcha.
At the time I was overjoyed to have that $5k, so I am STILL happy for the sale!
Sales says
“Unfortunately the damage has already been done; a lot of people read the original allegation and never got the follow up.”
this sort of thing happens all too often in mainstream news. Some front page story saying “blah blah blah, so and so country allegedly did blah blah blah”, and then a week later when the allegations have been disconfirmed there is a footnote about it on some article buried on page 12.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Sales – true. I’ll sometimes print allegations (e.g. lawsuits), but always make it clear it’s an allegation.
Kevin Murphy says
I wrote the original The Register article.
I think Andrew is correct.
The seller did not suggest to me that he thought he got screwed. Not by the buyer, and defintely not by Sedo.
larry says
When you list a name on Sedo, do you think Sedo gives a damn how much you get?
Andrew Allemann says
@ larry – um, yeah. it’s called a commission.
