ICANN COO Doug Brent Stepping Down

Doug Brent announces resignation from ICANN.
ICANN Chief Operating Officer Doug Brent has announced he’s stepping down at the end of July for personal reasons. Brent joined ICANN in January 2007 in what was then a new role for the organization, and outlines some of the improvements at ICANN since he joined in a blog post.
In explaining his departure, Brent writes:
While my engagement in the work of ICANN has made this a difficult decision, the reasons I am leaving are simple. I accepted my role with ICANN in December 2006 with the expectation that I’d commute the 300 miles to Los Angeles four days a week. I did that for twenty months, after which I chose to relocate to Los Angeles – both to do a better job for ICANN, and to see my wife of 27 years every once and a while
. After relocating for what will be more than two years, and much family discussion, we’ve determined that our life is not in Los Angeles.

OUCH, sorry to hear that Doug Brent is going. I can truly understand the whole “Family First” concept though. A job / career path can always be changed, but your family is forever.
I wish Doug Brent the best in his journeys and hope that he finds his way through life with the happiness and comforts of his family beside him.
Good luck!
That was diplomatic of Doug Brent . . . if one doesn’t read between the lines! LOL.
Doug’s a serious class act and he really brought a lot to ICANN. But, family first.
