Here are things I’ve been thinking about lately.
I think about domain names every day. Here are things I’ve been thinking about lately…
There are a lot of live auctions going on. It’s hard to keep tabs on all of them. Moniker has one at least every other month, SnapNames/Oversee.net are getting in on the action, DomainTools just announced one (with the rules changing everyday), and Sedo is launching at least one each month. If you submit domains to one of these auctions, you’re committing to a lock on that domain per your contract. It’s hard to keep track…I hope I don’t submit the same domain to two auctions!
Parked.com is like crack to me. Those big payments come twice a month like clockwork. When I get my payment on the 7th, I start counting down to the 22nd. Pays the mortgage many times over. Keep up the good work, guys.
DomainNameNews.com is getting better and better. If you don’t read this, you should. It’s lead by a couple experienced guys. You need an RSS reader to keep up with all of the domain name blogs these days.
I’m going to delete a lot of blog spam. By mentioning “mortgage” in this article, I’ll get at least two dozen trackbacks from splogs backed by Google Adsense. I’ll have to delete them manually.
Is Alvaro Albarracin a genious or idiot? One thing is for sure. He’s willing to take a risk.
Why is .mobi such a divisive domain? Why do people either love this domain or hate it? Why don’t they just say “yeah, that’s nice” like .info? Whenever I post about .mobi, I get a bunch of people saying how it’s the greatest domain ever and a bunch telling those people they’re crazy. I like the idea behind the domain, but here’s what I think is really going on: a lot of late-comers to domains invested heavily in this domain since it’s one of the few unrestricted domains they were able to register freely. They have a lot riding on it and are vocal proponents. My take: unless a real end-user buys some of these domains for big bucks soon, investors will take a bath. There’s nothing worse than a domain that keeps rising in value because speculators are buying it from each other.
The 2008 Domain Name Wire survey is coming soon. Stay tuned and check out results from 2006 and 2007.

We are launching begining of next year our own Live Domain Auctions (mega ad campaigns coming soon). At the difference of the others players I don’t think the solution is take domain owners in hostage (they are really abusing with such agrements). So the problem you outline here should not be worse when our new auctions will start.

2w- they changed the discount after the auction and the commission rate. Both were favorable to sellers.
