Domain registrations continue to increase

According to Verisign, operator of the .net and .com registries, the total number of domains registered reached 76.9M names as of Q1 2005. Other statistics released by Verisign:

-22% year-over-year growth in active domain registrations
-6.7M new domain registrations in Jan-March of this year
-In Jan-March of this year, an average of 1.6M new .net and .com registrations were added each month
-Renewal rates for .net and .com domains are around 75%, near an historic high
-.com extension accounts for 47% of all registrations
-62% of .net and .com domains have live web sites
-The USA has the most registrations at nearly 26M, or 36% of all domains, followed by Germany with about 11M domains.

Clearly, the domain name market is as strong as ever.
