Changing your handle to a domain name is as simple as adding a TXT record.
One of the interesting things about recently-launched social media platforms is how they use domain names.
Mastodon requires users to pick a server, each one using a different domain name. Many of those domains use new extensions such as .social.
And the newest entrant, BlueSky, lets you set your domain name to be your handle. It’s incredibly easy, too.
I recently joined BlueSky and started with the standard handle, which uses the format name.bsky.social. I decided to change my handle to allemann.org. Here’s how to do this with any domain you own:
1. Open up the left menu in BlueSky and click on settings
2. Scroll down to the Advanced section and tap “Change handle”.
3. Tap “I have my own domain”
4. Enter your domain and copy the Value
5. Go to your domain registrar and select your domain. Go to the DNS records for that domain. Here’s how that looks at GoDaddy:
6. Choose Type TXT, enter _atproto. for the Name, and Value for Value
7. Go back to BlueSky and click “Verify DNS Record”.
That’s it. Now my profile looks like this:
I’m not sure what the future of BlueSky is, but I like this domain name feature. If you’re on BlueSky, be sure follow me @allemann.org.

Do you have an invitation code? I would follow you if I could signup! 😀

I’ve been waiting to get access to BlueSky to no avail. You can also register your Tik Tok handle as a domain name (at least .com)
