Bidder picks up Bird.com, Fish.com and Tattoo.com.
Update: the bidder failed to pay.
A single bidder has scooped up several of the high dollar domains in today’s Right of the Dot domain name auction.
A bidder using an IP address from Queenstown, Maryland paid $2.5 million for Bird.com, $1.6 million for Fish.com, and $750,000 for Tattoo.com.
In a Clubhouse room organized by DomainSherpa, the general consensus after Bird.com sold was that the scooter company that uses Bird.co bought it. That theory was quickly shot after Fish.com sold. At that point, it seemed like a pet supplies company. But then…tattoo.com?
Bird.com and Fish.com were sold by the same person, who will certainly be celebrating tonight.
It will be interesting to see who the buyer is.
(An original version of this post incorrectly stated that Fish.com sold for $1.5 million, not $1.6 million.)

Rumor has it the bid ain’t legit, hope it’s not true
Two auctions same two bidders bidding each other up.
Andrew Allemann says
I don’t know about any rumors, but I do know you had to send in a copy of a photo ID to bid more than $2k. So Monte must know who the bidder is.
cash488 says
The location listed on the auction is where the buyer is registered. This may be where the buyers company is located for example a Maryland corporation not necesarily where the buyer is physically located.
Mike says
The bidding war scenario takes 2, and it was the same 2 bidders pushing it higher for both auctions… supposdely name has been marketed to bird scooters already, and they didn’t take it, so who paid $2.5M for it?
Andrew Allemann says
For much of it, the bidder was bidding against the reserve. The bidder went to 2.5 million on bird because the auctioneer kept pushing it to the reserve level.
Gregg says
Why is it not yet confirmed by Monte if this is a real bidder or not?
It sounds “fish-y”.
Andrew Allemann says
Well, has anyone asked him if it was a real bidder or not? You had to send in a copy of your ID or be verified to bid $2k or more.
Gregg says
Monte usually is quick to participate in comments. So far questions and doubts have been raised here, on Elliot’s blog, and Twitter. He hasn’t replied.
Andrew Allemann says
If I were him I wouldn’t say anything until those auctions close.
Drew Platt says
It’s Brent Oxley
thelegendaryjp says
So he spent $4.85M on those 3 names but will sell his portfolio (oxley.com) for just $25M?
Maybe he really likes birds and fish lol
Andrew Allemann says
It’s not Brent Oxley.
John Berryhill says
Unpaid. Right of the Dot has filed suit in Florida against the non-performing buyer.
