Old school domain data site is shutting down next month.
Donuts has announced that it is shutting down RegistrarStats.com on February 19, 2018. The company acquired the site as part of its acquisition of Rightside last year.
The company says it is shutting down the service “due to dwindling interest and usage in the website service over the past several years.” Paying customers will receive a pro-rata refund of any subscription payments that extended beyond February 19.
RegistrarStats was once a popular site for gathering data on domain names such as registrar market share stats. However, the site has languished in recent years under a paid model. The copyright notice hasn’t been updated since 2013.
There are other sites like Ntldstats that do a better job.
And maybe the downtrend for nTLDs has become slightly embarrassing ?
Very different data as ntldstats only has data on new tlds
Can understand why it is being shut down. Crunching zones on a daily basis is quite hardware intensive. Dealing with a few legacy gTLDs can be somewhat easier than dealing with the legacy gTLDs and over a thousand new gTLDs.
Namestat.org does provide better coverage on the new gTLDs as it works from zonefiles.
is there another site that does the same thing? i liked to check it out now and again.
You can try https://domainnamestat.com/
Here’s an alternative service that’s updated every few months: http://www.registrarowl.com/
http://dailychanges.domaintools.com/ is a free tool by DomainTools that tracks changes in registrar stats.
Those are pretty good. However, I always liked RegistrarStats for being updated on a daily basis while RegistrarOwl always has a delay of about 3 months as they take the official data published by ICANN. Shame RegistrarStats closed down but I get their arguments…
Michael, I can’t seem to use dailychanges for free, it always asks me to sign up!
The Gtld’s all suck roasted weenie dogs on a stick. As the say on cnbc’s Job Interview: “GOING DOWN!”
Can’t blame them for not wanting to hand the world dismal and depressing data on a silver platter. I would do the same.
Might have helped if RegistrarStats ever replied to emails when I tried to sign up!
