The consensus is no.
I got a good chuckle this morning from an article on Merry Jane, a website about marijuana.
Sedo domain name broker Dave Evanson reached out to the company to see if it wanted to buy Kush.com for $3 million. Kush is a strain of cannabis flower.
Merry Jane pointed out that you can buy a lot of weed for three million bucks. But is the domain worth it?
First, the company reached out to Sergio Stephano, who runs an agency called Adaptia and previously ran a site called WeedWall. Stephano expressed his displeasure and domain investors, but then he brought up a really good point: If Marijuana.com sold for $4.2 million, it’s a stretch to say that the less-desirable Kush.com is worth $3 million.
The publication then turned to domain investor Mike Mann for an opinion. Mann, as always, was willing to give one: “The sellers will be happy as sh*t if you give them $500,000…”
Merry Jane reports that the asking price has already been lowered to $1.7 million.
You can read the full story here. (Note that the article erroneously states that Sedo owns the domain name. It is only the broker.)
Well I got small packet of Kush fr Rs 50 today.
Interesting read. I noticed that besides Michael Mann, the buyers all talked about cost of acquisition and even presented the example of buying 13,000 oz. of ‘kush’ for $3 million. But, no mention of how much kush can be sold beyond the $1.7 million or $500K price Mann quoted. No mention of how much money Kush.com would generate beyond whatever the acquisition will be. This is shallow thinking. Whatever the price should be$100K-$1.7m the buyers and sellers should be looking at the data of the Kush market, and potential growth; that is the true value of the kush.com or any similar domain…
And enough with this cyber-squatter bologna being applied to non-trademark owned domain names. These potential buyers are so envious of those smart and fast acting domain speculators that saw where trends where going and acted fast to register domain assets, period…
“especially SEDO and those companies.” Not only does he feel like they’re “squatting [on] a lot of valuable online property,” but the prices themselves are very subjective.”.
same can be said for MaryJane. They sell death.
Sedo does not squatt. You should Thank Sedo for making this oppurtunity available to you. You are not recognising the fact that Sedo has made this domain name available to you.
The cyber squatter label is just a negotiation tactic to bring down the value of the domain. If Sedo, LLC truly wanted to with their assets they could sue for defamation and libel for being slandered as cyber squatters. On the bright side, Merry Jane gave free publicity for Kush.com to other potential buyers. See, because of this article, a smart entrepreneur out there may show up with an offer.
We have Kush.biz for sale for much less. 🙂
Kush.com also has huge branding potential outside of the cannabis space. In the right hands, it can be the foundation of an multi-million dollar business.
You can say “In the right hands, it can be the foundation of an multi-million dollar business” about almost any domain name
Agreed.
I like Kush.com much better. Shorter, easier to remember and spell. Kush is crossed with many other strains that are sold into market so the word itself is very popular and instantly makes people think cannabis.
The term marijuana is losing popularity and I would say that Weedmaps paid max value+ for it when they acquired it back in 2012.
Here’s a quick read as to why marijuana is not as relevant a keyword in that industry anymore: https://www.marymart.com/marijuana-vs-cannabis/
Great article, only own medical cannabis domains and brands.
Kush.com is a monster and a multi-million dollar revenue producer with a simple service offering (think Amazon® prime). There really is no need to discount the sale price, unless of course $1.7 in cash is on the table. Good luck Dave, it’s one of the the best domain names available today!
Until you can legally sell kush online the value of the domain is limited, they will be lucky to get any offer over $100k, there’s very little commercial potential and it would really just be a branding play.
One startup has already delivered 100’s of thousands of orders and has raised over $50 million… wake up man!
Whomever builds the best, content rich website on that property will win.
With the new gtlds and the very smart rank brain, you can call it merrybob.com and it wouldn’t matter so long as it is the best content for that keyword search. (Or just buy an Ad $ and rank#1)
It can be a lot of work to get the website right, but it can be done, regardless what comes after the dot.
The tools are out there to get it right. You just gotta know what to do with it.
The lanscape for domains are changing.
Cheers!
Good pot! I mean post.
I prefer pothead.com
I’m just glad this story has a happy ending. Russia has acquired Kush.com for a Jared Kushner social media marketing play. (Insiders reveal it may just be a rebrand of BloodMeal.vip.) Glad to hear Putin may now be prodding us with his microinfluencer in the broad light of dotcom. https://tinyurl.com/ybygrh7w
LOL, please save me some of whatever you are smoking :).
kush.com is still available for sale at sedo. its sale was also not covered by dnjournal / domain name wire.
for how much did it change ownership.
Let me be direct here. Kush.com is worth $3 million. No doubt about this domain name for a great return on investment.
