Judge denies motion; U.S. contract with ICANN will expire tonight.
United States District Judge George Hanks has denied a request for an injunction to stop the United States from allowing its contract with ICANN for IANA functions to expire.
Four states filed suit this week in district court in Galveston, Texas to block the transfer. They also asked for an injunction to stop the expiration of the contract from happening at the end of today.
The suit was filed after Ted Cruz failed to convince congress to add a rider to its continuing resolution that would have blocked the expiration.
Judge Hanks announced that he was denying the motions for declaratory and injunctive relief at 4:30 local time today.
The lawsuit seemed like a longshot and was widely panned.
More to come.
Very disappointing!…Congratulations to the socialists, globalists, communists and authoritarian regimes which violate human rights, you got what you wanted.
Gee, aren’t we going to do the “biased crooked judge” routine?
Hahahaha, your right John, I almost went there. BTW- Congratulations!
Well on that front he’s not right, Aaron, so no need to be so giving there in the face of this tragedy. Any normal person would wonder about that and he certainly knows it. It’s also not for nothing he went out of his way to point out it was an Obama appointee to begin with.
In my opinion’ technically, what just expired is ICANN’s contract’ not US ownership of the internet. The US, one way it the other will give the oversight functions to a department’ or an agency. Congress will revisit this stuff.
Aaron thanks for fighting the good fight as you have so well until now. It was great not to be the only most vocal supporter left in our particular sphere.
Thanks to you as well John!…We fought a good fight. In the end, freedom and true democracy lost another battle today…..Best to you John!
Aaron, this is more of a beginning than an end. What matters now is to stay informed and keep an eye on what ICANN is up to. When a policy is up for public comment – read it, comment on it, get others you know who may be affected to do the same. Don’t just walk away and leave it up to some imaginary undefeatable secret cabal.
Thanks John B….I get your point and your advice may indeed become part of my future…On another note, even with our differences it has been good debating the issues with you. Thanks again!
soon china and the like will be using the power they have to shut down domains that contain info they don’t like. say goodbye to the internet that we once knew.
please see a doctor
If you guys are concerned about those things, then why not become involved in ICANN? See what’s up for public comment, stay informed about what Icann is up to… those kinds of things.
Curious: How did they wind up with a recent Obama appointee hearing this? As the saying goes, anything there? Yes, no, maybe? Anyone surprised he would not find a valid, creative outside-the-box way to delay the “transition” even if the most uncreative inside-the-box legal considerations made it appear legally “untenable” on the surface? Anyone doubt a differently disposed judge would have?
Let it out John..Let it out..We are here for each other. Many of us will be going through the stages of grief and loss at different times. Currently, I am in the anger stage and I am taking it out on Budweiser.
LOL. I went straight to grief, Aaron. Now I’m sliding into grief-stricken resignation and acceptance.
“How did they wind up with a recent Obama appointee hearing this?”
Because the Illuminati secret blood oath continues to be effective at keeping their hidden shadow government under wraps.
This is reinforced by small brain implants implanted by the alien lizard overlords – the same ones, John, which keep your blog posts “awaiting moderation” until they can be reviewed for publication.
It’s amazing you could really be so clueless and self-deluded about what you think you accomplish with that, but if anyone else is bamboozled by your grade school level antics that is sad indeed.
the all knowing all seeing polar bear man has dispensed his holy knowledge unto us mere deluded fools. it is our own fault if we do not heed his sage advice.
It is a sad day indeed, not only for the USA but also the entire world.
This sad development is not a surprise, however.
There will be no pleasure or time for celebration or rejoicing if and when it comes time to say “we told you so.” Probably more like when.
Despite everything, I also recognized all along that it may nonetheless be the ultimate will of Providence for this development to occur or be allowed to occur. And by Providence I am of course referring to God. This development certainly came as no surprise to Him.
History is linear, moving in only one direction – forward – toward a definite inexorable end. This development despite how sad cannot completely surprise given what God has revealed in history about this end toward which history inexorably runs each day.
A sad day for mourning, especially for those who believed in the principles behind the cause, but now it’s time to just keep moving ahead.
The above said, anyone have a guess how long before this kind of thing going on in enlightened Europe (let alone China, Russia, Iran, etc.) starts happening here in the US as a result and to the extent it may become more possible because of this “transition”:

Last I heard similar things have already been going on with our friend Canada just above the border, and they have certainly already been attempted in various ways and at various times here before already.
i am more inclined to agree with the EFF’s statement than your apocalyptic rambling and insulting diatribes.

Not trying to be insulting, but you have no troll skills at all. Anyone swayed by your “tactics” is most to be pitied.
not trolling, no tactics, just venting my annoyance at your deluge of hysterical posts that are mostly disconnected from reality. most of the time i let it go but sometimes i get tired.
anyone swayed that you are not trying to be insulting is most to be pitied.
