Boston Globe sells .boston rights to new TLD company.
Minds + Machines has acquired the .Boston top level domain name from Boston Globe Media, the company announced today. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
The Boston Globe retains a 1% interest in the domain name, and it appears it will assist with promoting the domain name or using it. As a city domain name, Minds + Machines will also work with the city.
Among its media properties, Boston Globe Media owns the Boston.com domai name.
Minds + Machines is involved with other successful geo domain names, notably .london and .miami. Both of these have been fairly successful, especially compared to niche names. .London has over 60,000 domains and .Miami has over 13,000 registrations.
Shows the intent of Minds and Machines going forward, Expansion!
How did Boston Globe manage to get .boston at the first place? Had the city supported their .boston application?
Yes
Congrats to Minds + Machines, a great move. The globe has probably done well with Boston.com through the years, but passing on .Boston seems like a short-sighed decision. I’ll bet the deal insures they get rights to news.boston.
The suffix is .stupid and it was .smart of the globe to .getridofit!
Hmmm, registry the messed up launch of .London with crappy pricing strategies is about to do it one more time! It might be better then .
M+M also operates .BAYERN with 30,000 registrations.
and .MIAMI, .NRW .BUDAPEST,…..
