A weekly wrap of expired domain name sales.
Roughly half a dozen auctions at NameJet outperformed LoveDay.com ($3.6k) during the past week – by as much as a factor of 10 in the case of DogCare.com ($37k). These included the usual crop of LLL.com’s; an LL.tv; and another 5-figure NNNN.com, which was the category that topped our chart last time. In these weekly articles, however, I do my best to exclude seller-managed auctions for domains that don’t go through the automatic expiration cycle. LoveDay.com ($3.6k) emerged as the top result after the rest were filtered out. Significant NameJet sales of non-expired domains will show up in my monthly review pieces, where no such distinction is made.
What is this Day of Love, pray tell? Well, whatever it may become in the future, from 1996 through 2010, Loveday.com represented cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry: Dr. Loveday of Beverly Hills. Names do make a difference. If I were booking an appointment to have someone drill into or tear out my teeth, I’d rather it be with a Dr. Loveday than a Dr. Killingsworth!
Development.org ($3.4k) – now there’s a far-reaching word for you. We apply it to anything and everything we care about that’s capable of change, and how we direct it defines Progress. In a given day, you might hear about a continent (Africa’s economic development), a toddler (child development), aesthetics (the development of Picasso’s various styles), and the domain industry (website development). Wilderness is developed into farmland. Farmland is developed into cities. And so forth. Curious how Development.org will be developed …
Cookoo.com ($2.4k) isn’t exactly the Cuckoo bird, but it’s a common misspelling or a cooking-related pun. 89 bidders jumped aboard the bandwagon for another misspelling, InjuryLaywers.com ($1.7k), placing 127 bids in all. By $100, all but 8 had dropped out, leaving just 2 to battle it out above $360. One wonders at what point the realization set in.

NightJobs.com ($1.8k) is a personal favorite of mine, since I’m nocturnal half the time and meet a lot of people who keep cities alive by night. Employers trying to staff night-time positions or job seekers pursuing openings with night hours will mainly find irrelevant listings at regular job sites. Therefore this domain can resolve a real-world inefficiency, which exists nearly everywhere.
A Batard.com is a stunted baguette. As such, the word has also branded at least one restaurant in NYC. Yes, it’s also 1 letter off from the English word “bastard” and shares that meaning also. Sylmar.com ($1.5k) is an L.A. neighborhood. WineAcademy.com ($1.2k) could shorten the online address of multiple existing websites. CentralPets.com ($1.5k) may be a brand-protection concern for CentralPet.com. Do I detect the name of an American TV network in StandupNBC.com ($154)? 2020Dubai.com certainly focuses on the upcoming World Expo. Touchdown.net ($530) is a word from American Football, meaning to score. Readers outside the USA might not realize that, but inside the USA this word symbolizes victory.
USC.net ($2k) may stand for anything, of course; but its strongest association in the USA would be the University of Southern California, which operates on .EDU. Another LLL.net did nearly as well: QIA.net ($1.6k). My lists are not comprehensive – meaning they don’t capture every expired auction at NameJet; but the only other LLL among the expired auctions I was following is PWT.org ($561). A bit unusually for a .ORG, EV1.org ($310) joins the more common CCC.com sales: 9GN.com ($735) and D6T.com ($330).
Numeric sales are all over the place. 5-digits: 57589.com achieved $1533, whereas 43819.com couldn’t clear $210. 6-digits: 675999.com and 852999.com were both at $1.1k, but 866699.com was just $79. These phenomena have their reasons, but as an investor you must know what you’re doing.
The LLLL category continues to place well on the chart: CWDC.com and OOBU.com (each at $1.1k) were followed by MNGX.com ($581) and GBNY.com ($578) and another 5 between VHKK.com ($210) and SQLW.com ($361). (That last might be database-related, since it contains “SQL”.) Repeating letters usually indicate a Chinese interest, although CSEE.net (the lone LLLL.net) could be read as as a field of study: Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. With so many 4-letter domains headed for China, the rest of the planet may ultimately be left with acronym domains like these: APHA-Environment.org ($360), NYSEBlue.com ($115), IDSA2011.org ($160), NSEF-India.org ($99).
Far too many domains to do justice to them all! A few more that I’d draw attention to: DragonKnight.com ($1.2k) sounds like the title of a possible book or movie; SmartFridge.com ($1k) belongs to the internet-of-things (IOT) topic; and BTC2.com ($79) is bitcoin squared. Dirt cheap if you ask me, given many domainers’ obsession with the bitcoin topic. Some other good deals would include LawnMoss.com ($79), BestGun.com ($159), and Counselled.com ($79). There are 2 accepted spellings for that word.
Perhaps I’m stumped on how to end this article and make a clean getaway. Fortunately, SilverHammer.com ($726) brings the Beatles to my rescue with an ambush.
