Pricing configuration issue delays launch of three top level domain names.
New top level domain name applicant Radix has delayed the launch of its first three domain names until tomorrow.
.Website, .Press and .Host will all launch tomorrow at noon EDT. They were scheduled to release at the same time today.
Sandeep Ramchandani, business head for Radix, told Domain Name Wire that there was a pricing configuration issue that some registrars ran into. Although the TLDs could have launched minutes later than planned, a number of registrars requested that the launch be delayed by a day.
Given that people (like me) judge registrars based on their ability to capture pre-ordered domains, this was probably a smart move.
Ramchandani said the pricing issue is not one that affects end users, such as the amount registrants pay for standard and premium-priced domains.
This gives me a bit more time to figure out how to pre-order domains…
So, all the registrars that took our money today as the domains said “available” – what will happen?
Hi James,
Most Registrars are queuing up these orders as Pre-registrations. But it’s best if you checked with your Registrar about this
I looked up 2 .press domains that I own in .com, mid range ok domains, one was $1200 a year, and the other $6000 not sure if this is why the delay was launched, but do these people have any idea what people are willing to spend money on, and what they are not willing to spend money on.
Hi Robbie,
No pricing has been changed in the last 24 hours. The domains you looked up sound like Premiums and were priced the same right from the start.
Good question.
A lot of intelligence was gained today – now the registry is aware of all the
requests for domains in general availability –
I tried purchasing several .website domains which came out to about 100 dollars at NC. I received an unspecified error at checkout and was presented with a reprocess order button. Which I pushed and received the same error. I said the hell with that and went to GD which is a bit more expensive. The order seemingly went through but 3 hours later the domains still aren’t showing in my account. I’d also like to know where customers who bought today stand with their purchases. Will they be treated as pre-registrations, or will they just float in limbo and eventual be treated as voided transactions?
…continued. GD support seemed clueless. And NC went ahead and billed me a couple hundred dollars for those errors I received. Now I can wait probably weeks for a refund. Talk about a clusterfk of a launch. I bought .club, .center, and directory domains without a hitch. Oh well…I guess I’ll go through the same thing tomorrow and try again.
Good question. I “bought” a few domains at eNom after launch. I’d rather not have them go as pre-regs as eNom was a lot more expensive than other companies for .website.
Forget NC for pre-orders, they always fuck it up. Among the two dozen domains I pre-ordered these last few months on NC, I didn’t get ANY. NC will take your pre-orders even if the name is on the collision list, and even if the name is premium, which NC cannot register, but for some reason they do not know whether it is premium until they submit it for registration at the beginning of general availability. But even if the name is neither premium nor on the collision list they manage to fuck it up! NC told me a couple of times that some domains I had pre-ordered could not be registered because someone else had secured them, yet I could register them manually at NC and at other registrars after the beginning of GA!
I wonder if this has to do with NameCheap being a reseller for eNom.
there’s pricing issue now but it looks like .Website, .Press and .Host will be beneficial for lots of people.
