Did you really mean to go to nic.tattoo?
New top level domain names are being delegated to the root, but Google Chrome wants to make sure you really meant to type them in.
Here’s what happens when you type one of these new domain names into Chrome:
It defaults to a Google search for “nic.newtld”, and you have to click a link to go to the actual web address.
You only have to click the link once and then you don’t get the message when you visit the domain again. I’m sure this is temporary until the domains become more widespread.
Another interesting thing when going through this exercise: type in nic as the second level domain for many of Donuts’ delegated domains, and it lands on a parking page at Searchezy.com or goes through a zero-click site.
I tried nic.tattoo on Chrome and Firefox. Chrome asked question but Firefox just did the job I wanted.
Yawn. Who cares? Sad truth is that no one is ever gonna visit a gtld anyway.

So then if I wanted to go to somedomain.newtld then it will effectively give me a warning “hey you fool, didn’t you mean to go to somedomain.com?”
Oh ok… I will then. More traffic lost to the .coms!

Did you learn this by listening to Tucows conference call when they spoke about Chrome hurting PPC?
No – that’s a different issue with Chrome.

Actually, this is just how Chrome has always behaved, as far as I can recall.
For example, if I try to type in an intranet in Chrome’s address bar (without prepending it with a protocol), it does the same thing.
If I typed just “intranet” in the address bar, it brings up a Google search for “intranet” and asks “Did you mean to go to http://intranet/?”
So, just par for course with Chrome. I’m guessing after a bit, Chrome will be updated to properly recognize these new TLDs. 😀
(Though, I still prefer Firefox anyways…)
It’s always been that way, but it doesn’t do it with most TLDs. I’m sure they’ll fix it once these new TLDs are truly out there.

I stuck the slash on the end to visit nic.gallery/ and got zero-clicked through Sendori to Office Depot?!
@ Russ – yeah, that’s what’s weird about some of these Donuts TLDs. Some point to donuts.co, others through Sendori zero click. It’s almost like they have domains defaulted to Sendori until they set them up.
