Sedo completes domain transaction in “mid seven figures”.
Sedo sent out a press release about its sales yesterday, as sort of a “don’t forget we sell more dollars worth of domains than Afternic” reminder in the wake of GoDaddy’s acquisition.
About midway through the press release, which pointed out that it grabbed 9 of the top 10 spots on DNJournal’s list this week, the company mentioned:
In addition to the sales publicly announced in DN Journal, Sedo also closed on the second highest transaction in company history in recent weeks, with a private domain transfer in the mid seven-figure range.
The highest it has ever sold a domain for is $13 million for Sex.com.
Sedo’s weekly sales lists usually include a sales figure including private sales. But in this case Sedo told DNW that it made an exception:
Including the dollar value within any recent weekly sales reports would have made the transaction very apparent, so in order to fulfill its arrangement with the seller and buyer, Sedo did not include the figure.
The sale amount, of course, will be added into the company’s total sales numbers in its quarterly financial report.

If .net and .org names sell for between 5 and 10 percent of .com names it will be interesting to see what the new gTLDs will sell for. Although, I am biased, it seems like sex.club, or sex.shop seem better than sex.org or sex.net.

I think a better comparison would be .info and .biz domains compared to .com.
That said, I also think the value of .net domains will plunge as new TLDs come out.

Is the acquisition of Afternic by GoDaddy making Sedo nervous? They’ve had a ‘special relationship’ with GoDaddy so far, but the TDNAM bazaar appears to be producing very humble results. It was the primary reason that I removed all of my domains from Sedo – because they believed that customers don’t need to define their own options.
Regarding the seven figure sale, they’d better reveal the domain or it’s not news.
Andrew Allemann says
I think anytime one of your partners acquires a competitor you get nervous.
James says
OK I can’t keep the secret any longer. The deal is almost done. The domain was jailbrokeniwatch.com
Mark says
What is Sedo’s so far 2nd largest transaction? That might help to find out what is the amount of this sale…
Mark says
I believe, so far 2nd largest from Sedo is Vodka.com for $3,000,000 in 2006, which is equivalent of $3,480,312.50 in 2013 dollars. So Sedo’s new sale has to be >= $3.5 million
Andrew Allemann says
I don’t recall any between Vodka.com and Sex.com. So I’d say something between $3M-$7M, b/c if it was more than $7M they probably would have said “upper 8 figures”

….and volka.com was a private sale by RM

HOT.COM changed hands recently, maybe that’s the name?
M.G. says
Maybe it is Rick Schwartz’s domain sale, as he mentioned just couple days ago that he just made some 7-figure sale…
Andrew Allemann says
Maybe, although Rick seemed to indicate it would become public. Here, Sedo is saying parties want it private.
M.G. says
I think Sedo is saying that they are not authorized to publish this sale, which not necessarily means that parties will not published it by their own.
Andrew Allemann says
Usually when it’s not authorized, that means one or more of the parties wants to keep it private. But I suppose there could be special arrangements.

“dont forget” ? If you look at the sales reports, a TON of those “sedo sales” are coming via godaddy. Acro seems right. Sedo needs GD, more than GD needs Sedo. They sort of already own them 🙂 Awwww yea I said it.
DonnyM says
I had a 200 figure name sale but i had keep private but announce it to everyone that is was private. The main reason why they are private is so you don’t report them.
Towhid Zaman says
is it sports.com? LOL
I guess that’s the best one that can come near Sex 😉
Eric Stein says
It was http://www.SupplementsBusiness.com – Some say it’s worth $10 Million!
