Professional network upset about typos leading to fake surveys.
LinkedIn has filed a dispute against the owner of several domain names that forward to a “survey” with a logo mimicking the company’s trademark.
The dispute filed with National Arbitration Forum asks for control of the domain names linedin.com,
linnkedin.com, and lonkedin.com.
The domain names forward to this page on SurveyRewardPanel.com:
If users take the “survey” they can then select a prize such as a Macbook Air or Walmart gift card — if they participate in several offers, such as signing up for a free trial of Netflix or registering for a book club.
Google has filed similar complaints against domains mimicking its Gmail and YouTube brands.
Tier 1 Development says
This is not going to slow down. These type of parking solutions are going to only expedite domain owners losing these type of names. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised at all if they start going after the domains with high traffic that aren’t even TM names but using these kind of landing pages.
Clearly the pages are designed in a way to confuse the visitor and leverage the consumer awareness of the LinkedIn brand. I’ve seen these FB and Linked pages. What’s next Yahoo, Google and Bing?
