Groupon can move from CityDeal.ie to Groupon.ie.
Group buying site Groupon has had some difficulty getting country code domains for “Groupon”, but it just picked up one through arbitration: Groupon.ie.
.ie is the country code domain name for Ireland.
The domain name should be transferred to Groupon within 21 days unless the domain’s current owner Digitalworx Limited files a lawsuit.
Without the Groupon.ie domain name the company has been forced to use CityDeal.ie instead.
This appears to be the first time that Groupon has used domain name arbitration to get a domain name. It filed the case with World Intellectual Property Organization.
Country code domain names such as .ie are typically handled under a variant of the popular Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).
One notable difference between the .IE Dispute Resolution Policy (ieDRP) and UDRP is that a domain name merely has to be used in bad faith in the former — not necessarily registered in bad faith. Still, that may not have mattered in the case of Groupon.ie.
Groupon.ie currently hosts a parked page of ads.
