First ever Epik DevCon gets underway.
The Epik Developers Conference kicked off last night with a welcome reception at the Edgewater hotel in Seattle.
Right off the bat I’d say this is the coolest hotel for any domain name conference I’ve attended. The hotel is on the water — literally. It’s on a pier. You could literally drop a fishing line out the window and go fishing. (In fact, there’s a famous photo of The Beattles doing just that at the hotel).
Here’s the view from my room:
Epik isn’t sparing any expense for the event. Last night’s reception included what could be the world’s largest paella.
Formal sessions began this morning at the Bal Harbor Conference Center with a talk from Epik founder Rob Monster about the platform his company is building. Coming up next Luke Webster will talk about domain name acquisition. During lunch I will be on a panel with Chris Pirillo of LockerGnome.com about social media.

I wish i was there.
I am very happy with the site I have an epik build out on.
Paella is a Valencian rice dish that originated in its modern form in the mid-19th century near lake Albufera, a lagoon in Valencia, on the east coast of Spain
Got some great Paella photos but forgot my cable fro Nikon CoolPix to USB or FW- anyone have one?
@Steven
Correct – and it is the first thing we’re going to eat the moment we step off the plane next week for Domaining III in Valenica 🙂
so is the conference worth it?
Probably smart to show a picture of water rather than a picture of the crowd.
Crowd was actually quite large — around 90 registered people. There were also some unregistered people who came to the open events.
Some of the best Paella in the USA is found/enjoyed in the “Ironbound” section of Newark, New Jersey….this neighborhood is sometimes referred to as “Little Portugal” or “New Jersey’s Portugal” owing to its large Portuguese community. It’s actually largely known as a very safe & congenial area of the city that is just east of Penn Station.
There is a plthora of Portugese and Spanish resturants witin a 10 minuite walk of each other that serve oodles of “real paella”. there are also a bunch of such restaurants in neghboring Harrison, NJ — the town where the new Red Bull Arena is – the home field of the the Red Bulls pro soccer team.
Paella Valenciana and Paella de Marisco galore !!!
I guess large is a relative term.
