.Asia auctions don’t give much promise for resale values.
If you invested in English-language .asia domain names, you probably haven’t seen much of a return on your investment. Five .asia auctions that closed at Sedo today didn’t add up to much:
RealEstate.asia $6,000
Credit.asia $4,250
Single.asia $770
Wireless.asia $1,750
MP3.asia $655
.Asia currently has about 215,000 domain names registered, according to HosterStats.com. Although it represents a region, it is not a country code top level domain name like .eu. .Eu has about 3 million domain names registered, although the aftermarket for that extension hasn’t taken off either.
Although many of these sales happened during a different economic environment and many are for ccTLDs, here are some comparisons in different TLDs, according to NameBio:
RealEstate
.pk $9,000
.mobi $85,000
.net $300,000
.at $1,497
Credit
.info $36,000
.fr $850,000
.mobi $10,600
Single
.by $296
.es $43,337
Wireless
.io $250
MP3
none
i bought mp3.asia and a little Project will coming soon.
credit.asia and single.asia also going to a domain investor.
.Asia is a longtime investment and we will see what happens in 2-3 years.
.ASIA never will be worth much b/c most Asians think more locally.
It’s like getting a .NORTHAMERICA extension. Who would use it.
This also applies on the State level here in the U.S. Many “State” domains are not worth much of anything b/c nobody looks for a “Texas Locksmith” they look for a “Dallas Locksmith” or “Austin Locksmith”. Go buy TexasLocksmith.com and watch how there are no uniques going to it. I must say, however, there are exceptions to this rule, but on a whole it holds.
.ASIA will always be a ghost town…guaranteed.
belmassio is right.
I first started out in the domain business when asia hit. I lost a few hundred easy.
Now i stick with just .coms and im making a killing
I highly disagree with some of the negative comments here.
I look at it from a branding and search engine optimization angle. I think it will be hard to ignore domain names such as .asia and .eu in the future because some products are best searched from the larger region of Asia rather than at the country level.
Sure if you were searching for a taxi you would want something more regional but if you were looking for most other products Google may elect to give more weight to one of these domain names instead. If I was in Afghanistan, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Pakistan and I’m looking for a specialist in something showing only regional search results would be frustrating. In addition to this some countries such as China have restricted the general public from using the coutry level domain (.cn). You must be a company in order to use this domain.
Having the .asia gives your customers the message that your available for business in the region.
As it becomes aparent to seo specialist that the grab traffic outside of your borders a .asia domain is the way to go, watch the prices increase.
In this article a year ago RealEstate.asia went for $6,000. Now I see that real-estate.asia with an ugly dash went for $10,500.

Must be proof that what I mentioned above is starting to happen. I wonder what the person above would have paid for RealEstate.asia had he been first. Maybe the fact that RealEstat.asia was scooped up first his only option was Real-Estate.asia
I hope you’re right Elliot!
I just picked up ‘focusin.asia, focuson.asia, and marketsin.asia’ and hope they will be worth something in the not too distant future…
Perhaps some sort of finance/current affairs program focusing on Asia..???
Any bidders? 🙂
since the auction i am owner of town.asia, port.asia and organisation.asia. i had several offers for town.asia. highest was 6.300$. not enough for me to sell it.
i have time.
the future will show…
I think it is still worth to invest in dot asia domain because of the increase number of Internet users in the region. Furthermore, it is just a matter of time that dot asia domain will become more popular with the search engines moving forward
Does anyone know of a good place to sell a .asia?
Thanks
.com is worth much higher then .asia but if you are going for branding something local and historic in asia it could be more appropriate to use your country tld
