A look back at the past month in domain names.
Here are the top 5 stories on Domain Name Wire for March 2009, ranked in order of views.
1. Toys.com Loses Google Ranking – thanks in part to getting on the front page of Digg, this story about Toys.com losing its ranking on Google received more visits than any other article on Domain Name Wire — ever.
2. Will Toys ‘R’ Us Flub $5.1M Toys.com Purchase? Um, yes it will. At least as far as SEO is concerned. This article was written before the article in #1. Of course it’s easy to be an armchair SEO.
3. Billion Dollar Company Loses Key Domain Name – Austin, TX based Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) lost the domain name SiliconLabs.com when it expired. It’s now fighting to get the domain name back through arbitration.
4. Dell Buys Adamo.com Domain Name – In the better-late-than-never category, Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) belatedly bought the domain name Adamo.com from Tucows’ Yummy Names for its Adamo computer line. Wow, that’s two Austin companies in a row making mistakes. I need to hit the streets to help these guys out.
5. GoDaddy Makes It Harder for Woman’s Husband to Find a Job – I was hoping this wouldn’t make the top 5 because I sort of messed up on this one. It was the owner of the domain that messed up, not GoDaddy. The DNS was GoDaddy, but the owner set up a CNAME to Apple web hosting. GoDaddy just looked bad because people trying to find a highly publicized site were shown a GoDaddy parked page.
