Sedo and Parked.com selected as top domain parking companies.
For the third year in a row, Sedo has topped Domain Name Wire’s survey for best domain name parking company. Here are the top 7 vote getters including percentage of the vote:
1. Sedo/SedoPro 33%
2. Parked.com 17%
3. NameDrive 11%
4. Fabulous 6%
5. GoDaddy 5%
6. Google Adsense for Domains 4%
7. DomainSponsor 4%
Compared to last year, Parked and NameDrive switched places, Fabulous jumped up a spot, and GoDaddy and Google made their entrance on the chart.
The rankings shake up a bit if you control for the number of people who have used each service. Is Sedo #1 just because more people are familiar with it than other services? To find out, I took the top 5 and calculated the percentage of votes as the top parking service divided by the percentage of respondents who said they had used that parking service:
1. Parked.com 58%
2. Sedo/SedoPro 51%
3. GoDaddy 40%
4. NameDrive 35%
5. Fabulous 34%
So the answer is no, it’s not just that Sedo is more well known. But it also shows that, controlling for how many people have used the service, Parked.com comes out on top.
Yesterday Sedo acquired RevenueDirect, a primarily U.S. domain parking company. The goal was to bolster its U.S. presence as Sedo is generally known as strong in Europe. As it turns out, Parked.com is voted the top domain parking company among U.S. respondents:
1. Parked.com 28%
2. Sedo 22%
3. Fabulous 8%

Sedo.com could bolster their U.S. presence with better customer service and by not being so dismissive of its customers.
Great analysis.
Interesting how low DS is in the results.
Did DNW get any votes for Trafficz? I have been happy with them for some time. Am I just being complacent, or should I be looking elsewhere?…
Marg – I’ve been happy with TrafficZ as well. They just didn’t get enough votes to crack the top 7.
Ditto on #3 & #4. I’m happy with TZ as well and was surprised to not see them on the list. This list is interesting..I wouldn’t have expected DS so low compared to Sedo.
Vinny – for some reason DS never shows up high in the survey. I’m not sure why…I know they’re one of the biggest and most successful.
“I know they’re one of the biggest and most successful.”
Are they really though? I know they used to be one of the only games in town.
If you took out the oversee portfolio, how big would DS be in the industry?
I used to run across domains with their nameservers all the time but not so much anymore.
Great company, don’t get me wrong I just think the competition has eaten away at their marketshare.
I know the problem with Andrew’s numbers.
But, I was hoping someone else would point it out.
The major users of DS probably don’t visit DNW. Much less be willing to fill out a survey.
I believe the survey was based on a sample of 400 contributors.
Do we know if people voted more than once?
Did the survey take into consideration the quantity of domains they owned?
Maybe, they didn’t qualify for a DS acct.
I know I didn’t answer the survey.
I asked another domainer tonight if he did.
He didn’t. And, he has most of his ??,000 domains with DS.
The survey serves a purpose. But, I wouldn’t make a financial decision based on it.
Sedo actually asks their clients to vote for them in this type of surveys 🙂
Can’t blame them.
Fabulous.com and Sedo.com are my two favorites though.. For many years.
Too bad I don’t park much anymore… If I did, it’d be between them two.
Mike
@ Domainer – as I’ve stated many times, the survey is not scientific. Respondents are self selected. Domain parking companies that focus on big accounts will get fewer votes. Consider Skenzo, which signs up maybe one big whale every month. Since so few people use it, very few will vote.
That’s part of the reason I added in the “approval rating” measure in this post. It shows what percentage of people using the service rate it as the best.
“Do we know if people voted more than once?”
The survey system is supposed to block that, but isn’t 100% perfect.
no mention of HitFarm either which is one of the better companies using the Yahoo feed
Whatever you do stay away from parking with sedo…if you make over $100 its a good chance they cancell you account and accuse you of cheating or something…biggest thieves ever…
ps. it takes ages over 6 month to make $100 in the first place
What about winvas because i have parked with about five months but i have not received any thing. does it exit?
I wonder if anyone’s heard of Domain Sponsor? I have been with them for about a year – used to be with adsense before they stopped parking domains made good money with them and then moved to Domain sponsor I am disgruntled with them looking to move all my domains to a better place – Sedo? or Godaddy? any suggestions? need good service and one that makes as much as adsense used to make for me.
