Cox News uses domain name for football event.
Cox news understands domain names and their importance, even if the domain will only be in used for a short period of time. Its Dayton Daily News has a NCAA football national championship “mini” site at OSULSU.com. Perhaps more telling of the company’s savvy when it comes to domains, it also own the opposite: LSUOSU.com, which forwards to OSULSU.com.
These domains are much easier to remember than alternatives, such as 2007BCSNationalChampionship.com. I’m sure staffers looked at a few alternatives before settling on the memorable six character domain.
OSULSU.com is essentially a mini-site pulling in news feeds about the big game and offering message boards. This functionality likely exists on Dayton Daily News’ main site, but pulling it out into a niche site adds focus.
Cox is advertising the site across its network. I came across it when viewing our local Cox paper, The Austin American-Statesman.
The Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Louisiana State Tigers for the football National Championship on January 7 in New Orleans.
DR.DOMAIN says
Wonder what they would have paid for it if somebody else got it first?
Andrew says
Probably nothing — would have just looked for a different domain.
